Bought in from Chambers by The Folio Society and re-issued with their imprint on the title page; available from 1975/76 as a ‘Special Publication’ to members.

Some variation exists between copies such as shade differences in the leather and endpapers; later issues had the Chambers imprint to the title page – see here.

Hardback. Full brown morocco with gilt title and decoration; top edge gilt; marbled endpapers; a sewn-in ribbon pagemarker. Housed in a custom-made slipcase in light brown cloth. pp [18], 1432pp. Size: 8.5 x 5.75 inches approx. (215mm x 145mm).

Foxing to preliminary and final few pages; foxed/spotted to page edges; gilt to top edge scratched and marked; shelf wear to bottom edge of page-block; ribbon pagemarker split and frayed where it folds under the lower edge of pages.

Overall, showing wear from usage and long term shelf storage otherwise remaining a reasonably nice copy – and quite lovely in its attractive binding.
