The Folio Society, 1989
A volume in the ‘Folio Press Fine Editions’ series. Twenty titles were published 1987-91 and produced in a high-quality style that was reminiscent of a ‘private press’ book. Some titles in the series are published under the imprint ‘Folio Press’, whilst others used the ‘Folio Society’ imprint.
According to ‘Folio 60 – A Bibliography of The Folio Society 1947-2006’, fifty sets of unbound sheets of this title were used by Designer Bookbinders as one of the set books in their 1990 design competition. Unfortunately the binder isn’t identified for this particular copy, and no provenance, however it’s tempting to assume this may have been an entrant to that year’s competition.
Hardback. Full leather binding with applied leather strips and leaf cut-outs. pp xii, 83, including b/w illustrations. Size: 9.75 x 6.5 inches approx. (248mm x 166mm).
Some light handling and shelf wear but otherwise a nice, clean copy.
May or may not have been a Designer Bookbinder competition entrant but nevertheless has an unsophisticated charm.
