Originally published by The Folio Society as separate volumes (with dustwrappers) in 1954 and 1955, this 1969 second edition was published as two volumes with slipcase. In addition to the standard buckram bindings some copies were sold with a special binding of full cream leather and Cockerell marbled endpapers.
Full leather bindings with titles and decoration in gilt; page-block with top edge gilt; marbled endpapers. Housed in a custom-made slipcase with cloth top/bottom and textured paper covered sides. pp 394; 324, including b/w plates. Size: 10 x 6.25 inches approx. (253mm x 160mm).
Spines lightly sunned/faded; a heavy scuff/abrasion to head of spine of volume 2. No bookplates or ownership inscriptions; pages clean throughout and doesn’t appear to have been read.
Overall, some light wear but otherwise a nice, clean set – presents well in its custom slipcase.
