The Oxford Dictionary of Quotations (OUP, reprint 1970) Folio Society Special Publication Leather Binding
The Oxford Dictionary of Quotations
Oxford University Press, Second Edition (1953) reprinted with revisions 1970
Issued by The Folio Society as a ‘Special Publication’; offered to members from 1969/70 and available for several years thereafter. Over the period some variation exists in the orange-brown coloured leather, some copies tending towards a red/orange.
Hardback – full orange-brown morroco with design in blind and gilt to spine and boards, title in gilt to spine, marbled endpapers, two sewn-in ribbon pagemarkers, page-block with top edge gilt. Housed in a custom-made slipcase with cloth top/bottom and textured paper covered sides. pp xx, 1003, [1] colophon. 9.5 x 7 inches approx. (245mm x 179mm).
Light shelf wear to edges of boards, occasional light scuff or mark to leather. Page edges a touch grubby and marked from handling, light scratches and rubbing to top edge gilt; page corners a touch bumped in places, some corner creasing; pages a little dusty in places but generally clean throughout.
Overall, light wear but otherwise a lovely, clean copy – attractive in its custom slipcase.
